SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 151
BY SENATOR GALLOT 
FARMING. Requests that the Environmental Protection Agency and the United States
Department of Agriculture complete the approval process for certain new weed control
system products.
A RESOLUTION1
To urge and request the Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Department2
of Agriculture to complete the approval process for certain new weed control system3
products.4
WHEREAS, American farmers play a pivotal role in providing food and fiber for the5
world's population; and6
WHEREAS, the world's population is estimated to exceed nine billion by the year7
2050; and8
WHEREAS, the United Nations predicts that the global demand for food, feed and9
fiber will nearly double in the next forty years as population grows; and10
WHEREAS, farmers are finding it harder to stay competitive in the marketplace11
given economic and environmental challenges, including weed resistance; and12
WHEREAS, farmers must utilize innovative technologies to help them stay13
competitive while meeting food demands in a sustainable manner; and14
WHEREAS, through the new Enlist Weed Control System, Dow Agrosciences has15
introduced a product that provides exceptional weed control while increasing the overall16
productivity and efficiency of farming operations; and17
WHEREAS, delays in access to new products can lead to soil loss, water waste and18 SR NO. 151

increased fuel costs on farms; and1
WHEREAS, while the Environmental Protection Agency and the United States2
Department of Agriculture started the review process five years ago, these innovative3
products have not received regulatory approval and remain unavailable to American farmers;4
and5
WHEREAS, Canadian authorities have already approved the new weed control6
system perhaps putting American and Louisiana farmers at a competitive disadvantage; and7
WHEREAS, new systems, such as the Enlist Weed Control System, provide long-8
term sustainability through innovative education and training programs, research and9
development efforts, technology improvements and in-field performance testing; and10
WHEREAS, Louisiana farmers need access to the newest innovative products in11
order to compete in the global marketplace.12
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana13
does hereby urge and request the Environmental Protection Agency and the United States14
Department of Agriculture to complete the approval process for certain new weed control15
system products.16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the17
Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Department of Agriculture.18
