A RESOLUTION1 To commend C. Earle Benton on the occasion of his ninety-first birthday.2 WHEREAS, C. Earle Benton was born on July 31, 1923, in Pineville to Leslie3 Benton Sr. and Sammie Brecheen Benton; and4 WHEREAS, he had four brothers, Leslie, Milton, Carey, and William; and one sister,5 Grace; and6 WHEREAS, Mr. Benton graduated from Denham Springs High School as the class7 valedictorian, then received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science in8 Mathematics from Southeastern Louisiana University; and9 WHEREAS, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1943, was a10 lieutenant, and navigated a B-129; and11 WHEREAS, Mr. Benton married Mary Henrietta "Nook" Bencaz on July 14, 1946,12 and they have one son, John, and one daughter, Emily Jane "Cissy" Grantham; and13 WHEREAS, he has seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; and14 WHEREAS, Mr. Benton is active in his community as a member of the Kiwanis15 Club and as a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Denham Springs; and16 WHEREAS, in his spare time, he enjoys bird watching and playing golf; and17 WHEREAS, in his golden years, Mr. Benton works every day at Benton Brothers18 SR NO. 167 SLS 14RS-4897 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 Antique Mall, which opened in 1938 as Benton Brothers Furniture and changed to an antique1 store twenty years ago; and2 WHEREAS, every year on July 31, he celebrates his birthday at Investar Bank in3 Denham Springs with friends and family who gather to honor his special day and dine on4 coffee and doughnuts; and5 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,6 and the overall vitality of American society depend upon people like C. Earle Benton, an7 extraordinary gentleman and a true inspiration to all; and8 WHEREAS, on the memorable occasion of his ninety-first birthday, it is appropriate9 that sincere and heartfelt congratulations be extended to C. Earle Benton for his lifetime of10 outstanding devotion to his family, friends, and community.11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana12 does hereby commend and congratulate C.
