Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 25 BY SENATORS JOHNS, MORRISH AND JOHN SMITH A RESOLUTION To commend Jim Murphy, McNeese State University athletic trainer, on his numerous accomplishments and outstanding achievements and wish him continued success. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Louisiana recognize the numerous accomplishments and outstanding achievements of Jim Murphy; and WHEREAS, he is a native of Springdale, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; and WHEREAS, he has been the athletic trainer for thirty-three years at McNeese State University and has twenty-eight years under his belt as a visiting lecturer in the department of health and physical education; and WHEREAS, Jim Murphy has served under four university presidents and eight athletic directors; and WHEREAS, he has been a strong and positive influence on student assistants, many having entered into the medical profession as athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians and some even becoming coaches; and WHEREAS, Jim Murphy was named the 2009 Southeast Athletic Trainer of the Year, has appeared numerous times as a featured lecturer at the National Athletic Trainers Association convention, and has appeared as a guest lecturer at the Texas Physical Therapy annual meeting; and WHEREAS, he has honored his country serving as a member of the United States Air Force and was in the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS, Jim Murphy has been an integral part of the teams that have won numerous conference titles, produced untold numbers of all-American and all-conference performers, and participated in two national championship football games; and SR NO. 25 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, his work as athletic trainer for the university had him involved with more than three hundred athletes in all sports during his thirty-three years at the school, providing expert physical therapy treatment through conditioning, the treatment of injuries, and rehabilitation; and WHEREAS, Jim Murphy also worked with the rodeo team as its athletic trainer, the Justin Boot Company's Rodeo Athletic Trainers, and served as the athletic trainer for the North American rodeo commission's rodeo finals as well as the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association; and WHEREAS, he has served as president of the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association, chairman of the legislative committee for that association, and as a member of the ethics committee and the Hall of Fame committee, and also served on the legislative committee for the National Trainers Association; and WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of our American society depend, in great measure, upon men like Jim Murphy who dedicate their careers to using and sharing their knowledge, time, talents, and energy to making a difference in the lives of future generations. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Jim Murphy, McNeese State University athletic trainer, on his numerous accomplishments and outstanding achievements and wish him continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Jim Murphy. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
