SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 32
BY SENATOR PERRY 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Terrance Simien upon winning his second Grammy
Award.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience for winning the 2014 Grammy2
Award in the category Best Regional Roots Music Album for his recording Dockside3
Sessions.4
WHEREAS, Louisiana is such a hotbed of original music that it can boast of the5
2014 Grammy nominations for: Allen Toussaint for Best Americana Album and Best6
American Roots Song, Bobby Rush for Best Blues Album, Terrance Simien, The Hot 87
Brass Band, Zachary Richard for Best Regional Roots Music Album, Terence Blanchard for8
Best Improvised Jazz Solo, Hunter Hayes for Best Country Solo Performance, Bishop Paul9
S. Morton for Best Gospel Album, PJ Morton for Best R&B song, Tim McGraw for Best10
Country Album, a posthumous lifetime achievement award to "King of Zydeco" Clifton11
Chenier, and nominations for numerous other Louisiana musicians who made appearances12
on various other Grammy-nominated recordings; and 13
WHEREAS, Mr. Simien's 2014 win for Best Regional Roots Music Album is his14
second Grammy award, the first being for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album in 2008;15
Louisiana musicians hold the distinction of winning the regional roots category in all three16
years since the category was recognized; and 17
WHEREAS, the community of Louisiana musicians is such a close-knit group and18 SR NO. 32

homegrown music so pervasive in the state that Louisiana holds its "Only in Louisiana"1
Grammy brunch annually during the week of festivities to honor its many native nominees,2
hosted by Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne and the Department of Culture, Recreation and3
Tourism; and4
WHEREAS, as Mr. Simien accepted his Grammy for Best Regional Roots Album,5
he dedicated his win to his wife and manager, Cynthia, and to his recently deceased mother,6
Ethel Simien; extended personal thanks to the Recording Academy for recognizing Clifton7
Chenier with the Grammy's Special Merit Award; and acknowledged that Dockside Sessions8
is the tenth Grammy-winning album recorded at Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana;9
and10
WHEREAS, Mr. Simien further showed not only his musical but his ambassador11
chops by inviting all music fans to visit Lafayette to hear some Zydeco; and12
WHEREAS, because it is impossible to hear the unique beat of Louisiana's Zydeco13
music without wanting to get up and dance, Mr. Simien would want the above-mentioned14
nominees to be recognized and share in his achievement, which honors Louisiana as a15
cultural cauldron of unique and celebrated musical genres.16
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana17
does hereby commend and congratulate Terrance Simien and his band for winning the 201418
Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Album.19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr.20
Terrance Simien.21
