SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 32
BY SENATOR PERRY 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience for winning the 2014 Grammy
Award in the category Best Regional Roots Music Album for his recording Dockside
Sessions.
WHEREAS, Louisiana is such a hotbed of original music that it can boast of the
2014 Grammy nominations for: Allen Toussaint for Best Americana Album and Best
American Roots Song, Bobby Rush for Best Blues Album, Terrance Simien, The Hot 8
Brass Band, Zachary Richard for Best Regional Roots Music Album, Terence Blanchard for
Best Improvised Jazz Solo, Hunter Hayes for Best Country Solo Performance, Bishop Paul
S. Morton for Best Gospel Album, PJ Morton for Best R&B song, Tim McGraw for Best
Country Album, a posthumous lifetime achievement award to "King of Zydeco" Clifton
Chenier, and nominations for numerous other Louisiana musicians who made appearances
on various other Grammy-nominated recordings; and 
WHEREAS, Mr. Simien's 2014 win for Best Regional Roots Music Album is his
second Grammy award, the first being for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album in 2008;
Louisiana musicians hold the distinction of winning the regional roots category in all three
years since the category was recognized; and 
WHEREAS, the community of Louisiana musicians is such a close-knit group and
homegrown music so pervasive in the state that Louisiana holds its "Only in Louisiana"
Grammy brunch annually during the week of festivities to honor its many native nominees,
hosted by Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne and the Department of Culture, Recreation and
Tourism; and
WHEREAS, as Mr. Simien accepted his Grammy for Best Regional Roots Album,
he dedicated his win to his wife and manager, Cynthia, and to his recently deceased mother,
Ethel Simien; extended personal thanks to the Recording Academy for recognizing Clifton
Chenier with the Grammy's Special Merit Award; and acknowledged that Dockside Sessions
is the tenth Grammy-winning album recorded at Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana;

WHEREAS, Mr. Simien further showed not only his musical but his ambassador
chops by inviting all music fans to visit Lafayette to hear some Zydeco; and
WHEREAS, because it is impossible to hear the unique beat of Louisiana's Zydeco
music without wanting to get up and dance, Mr. Simien would want the above-mentioned
nominees to be recognized and share in his achievement, which honors Louisiana as a
cultural cauldron of unique and celebrated musical genres.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Terrance Simien and his band for winning the 2014
Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Album.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr.
Terrance Simien.
