SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 43

SENATE.  Recognizes Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the State Capitol.
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the State Capitol.2
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Louisiana State University for its one3
hundred fifty years of service and excellence in higher education and to recognize Monday,4
April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the Capitol; and5
WHEREAS, LSU is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution, is designated6
as a Research University (Very High Research Activity) by the Carnegie Foundation for the7
Advancement of Teaching, and performs research for the benefit of the United States and8
the state of Louisiana; and9
WHEREAS, LSU is the flagship institution of the state of Louisiana; and 10
WHEREAS, LSU was the first public university in Louisiana to adopt admission11
standards requiring successful completion of a high school college preparatory curriculum;12
and13
WHEREAS, LSU offers degrees in seventy-two baccalaureate programs,14
seventy-eight master's programs, and fifty-three doctoral programs, and the institution has15
awarded more than one hundred thousand degrees since its inception; and16
WHEREAS, LSU instituted the "Pelican Promise" need-based aid program so that17
students of the most dire financial condition may receive the benefits of higher education and18 SR NO. 43

participate fully in our society and economy; and1
WHEREAS, the generosity of the citizens of this state and nation have contributed2
to the support of the university, and Louisiana State University in turn provides a quality3
education, basic and applicable research, and valuable public service.4
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana5
does hereby recognize Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the State Capitol, does hereby6
record for posterity the extraordinary accomplishments and manifold contributions of the7
institution's administration, staff, faculty, and students, and does hereby extend enduring8
appreciation for the university's outstanding leadership in higher education in the state of9
Louisiana.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to F.11
King Alexander, chancellor of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.12
