Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 45 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To recognize Tuesday, April 8, 2014, as March of Dimes Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and supported the development of the polio vaccine that eradicated the disease from the United States of America; and WHEREAS, the same polio vaccine continues to protect babies today; through the support of March of Dimes, there has not been a single outbreak of polio in our country in more than thirty years; and WHEREAS, in Louisiana over 62,000 babies are born each year and 9,400 of those babies are born prematurely and March of Dimes has helped each and every one of those babies through its research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs; and WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, March of Dimes volunteers and staff from across the state are visiting the Louisiana State Capitol to raise awareness of the serious need to protect Louisiana babies and to advocate for policies that improve the quality of care for Louisiana moms and babies. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby welcome volunteers and staff of March of Dimes and recognize Tuesday, April 8, 2014, as March of Dimes Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Louisiana citizens are hereby encouraged to support March of Dimes in its research efforts to find the causes of preterm birth and reduce the number of birth defects, premature births, and infant mortalities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the State Director and the State Director of Program Services and Governmental Affairs of March of Dimes Louisiana Chapter.
