Commends Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson for over twenty-four years of dedicated public service representing the city of New Orleans as a state representative and city councilmember. A RESOLUTION1 To commend and congratulate Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson for over twenty-four years of2 dedicated public service representing the city of New Orleans as a district3 councilmember, state representative, and councilmember-at-large.4 WHEREAS, Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson has served the citizens of New Orleans5 first as the District "C" Councilmember, then as state representative of District 102, and also6 as councilmember-at-large as both president and vice president; and7 WHEREAS, she was elected to serve as the District "C" councilmember in 1990 and8 2002; and 9 WHEREAS, Jackie was a Louisiana legislator, representing District 102 in the10 House of Representatives from 1994-2002 and as a state representative, she was recognized11 for her leadership, championing landmark legislation that focused on women's health and12 safety, ethics and government reform, fiscal reform, education, child protection, law13 enforcement, and neighborhood preservation; and14 WHEREAS, as a councilmember, she is focused on public safety, quality of life,15 historic preservation, economic development and has worked on major changes in the city's16 charter to include the Inspector General and Master Plan; and17 WHEREAS, Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson was elected councilmember-at-large in a18 SR NO. 52 SLS 14RS-2172 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 special election in November 2007 and re-elected councilmember-at-large in February 2010;1 and 2 WHEREAS, she helped lead the creation of Federal City to retain vital military3 installations in New Orleans and redeveloped the Fischer Project into a neighborhood, one4 of the first in the country; and5 WHEREAS, Jackie, a licensed realtor/broker, has been a businesswoman for over6 forty-three years, has run two major companies and was president of the Louisiana Realtors7 Association; and8 WHEREAS, Jackie and her husband, Arthur "Buzz" Clarkson, are natives of New9 Orleans and have raised five daughters and have ten grandchildren; and10 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,11 and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication12 of extraordinary women of great character and dedication like Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson.13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana14 hereby commends and congratulates Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson for over twenty-four years15 of dedicated public service representing the city of New Orleans as a state representative,16 district councilmember and councilmember-at-large.17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to18 Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson.19 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
