Commends the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of AmeriCorps. A RESOLUTION1 To commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of the twentieth2 anniversary of AmeriCorps.3 WHEREAS, service to others is a hallmark of the American character, and central4 to how we meet our challenges; and5 WHEREAS, for twenty years, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission in the Office of6 the Lieutenant Governor has promoted and encouraged national service and volunteerism7 as a cost-effective strategy to meet critical community needs; and8 WHEREAS, throughout 2014, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission is recognizing9 the extraordinary impact of AmeriCorps and its twenty years of service for America and10 Louisiana; and11 WHEREAS, since its inception, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission has invested12 more than 58 million federal dollars which has been matched locally more than 44 million13 dollars to deploy 19,590 AmeriCorps members in 50 programs serving 7,092,025 hours to14 meet community needs; and15 WHEREAS, forty-seven percent of all Louisiana citizens are now engaged in service16 to their communities; and17 WHEREAS, both the Volunteer Louisiana Commission and AmeriCorps merit a18 SR NO. 61 SLS 14RS-2384 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 special measure of commendation upon the celebration of their tradition of service.1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana2 does hereby commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of the3 twentieth anniversary of AmeriCorps, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the4 tremendous pride and honor that the commission and AmeriCorps bring to the state of5 Louisiana, and does hereby extend best wishes as the Volunteer Louisiana Commission6 commemorates this memorable and historic anniversary celebration.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to8 Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne and to the chairwoman of the Volunteer Louisiana9 Commission.10 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
