Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of AmeriCorps. WHEREAS, service to others is a hallmark of the American character, and central to how we meet our challenges; and WHEREAS, for twenty years, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor has promoted and encouraged national service and volunteerism as a cost-effective strategy to meet critical community needs; and WHEREAS, throughout 2014, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission is recognizing the extraordinary impact of AmeriCorps and its twenty years of service for America and Louisiana; and WHEREAS, since its inception, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission has invested more than 58 million federal dollars, which has been matched locally with more than 44 million dollars to deploy 19,590 AmeriCorps members in 50 programs serving 7,092,025 hours to meet community needs; and WHEREAS, forty-seven percent of all Louisiana citizens are now engaged in service to their communities; and WHEREAS, both the Volunteer Louisiana Commission and AmeriCorps merit a special measure of commendation upon the celebration of their tradition of service. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of AmeriCorps, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the tremendous pride and honor that the commission and AmeriCorps bring to the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend best wishes as the Volunteer Louisiana Commission commemorates this memorable and historic anniversary celebration.
