SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 65
BY SENATOR CROWE 
COMMITTEE STUDIES. Requests the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry,
Aquaculture and Rural Development to study increasing the per pupil amount spent on
vocational agriculture, agribusiness, and agriscience programs in Louisiana.
A RESOLUTION1
To urge and request the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural2
Development to study increasing the per pupil amount spent on vocational3
agriculture, agribusiness, and agriscience programs in Louisiana.4
WHEREAS, R.S. 17:181 provides that effective with the 1997-1998 school year and5
thereafter, the governing authority of each public secondary school shall allocate annually6
to each secondary school in the school system, in addition to any other funding, not less than7
fifty dollars per student enrolled at the school in a vocational agriculture, agribusiness, or8
agriscience program for use in providing adequate instructional materials and supplies for9
such students; and10
WHEREAS, last year, according to the Louisiana State University Agricultural11
Center, Louisiana's farmers and ranchers generated over eleven billion dollars in income,12
which is a Louisiana record; and13
WHEREAS, agricultural and agribusiness education is essential for the continued14
development of this important business sector of Louisiana's economy; and15
WHEREAS, over fifteen years have passed since Louisiana increased the minimum16
amount the governing authority of each public secondary school allocates for each pupil17
enrolled in a vocational agriculture, agribusiness, or agriscience program.18 SR NO. 65

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana1
does hereby urge and request the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture2
and Rural Development to study increasing the per pupil amount spent on vocational3
agriculture, agribusiness, and agriscience programs in Louisiana.4
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the5
chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural6
Development and the state superintendent of education.7
