SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7
BY SENATOR PEACOCK
COMMENDATIONS. Commends former Senator Jackson B. Davis upon the celebration
of his 70th wedding anniversary.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate former Louisiana State Senator, Jackson Beauregard Davis,2
and his wife, Rosemary Slattery Davis, of Shreveport upon the happy occasion of3
their seventieth wedding anniversary.4
WHEREAS, the Davis family legacy extends throughout the state with Rosemary5
being from Shreveport and Jackson originally from Lecompte, and together, Jackson and6
Rosemary Davis have tirelessly served the community and have been honored for exemplary7
deeds that have made a positive impact on their city and state; and 8
WHEREAS, they first met while both were students attending Louisiana State9
University in the late 1930s; Jackson was an LSU Law Center senior and its student body10
president, and Rosemary was a freshman pursuing a degree in commerce; and on April 19,11
1940, they went to a dance on their first date; and12
WHEREAS, theirs was a lengthy courtship that stretched over great distances and13
survived the global turmoil of World War II; and14
WHEREAS, after graduation, Jackson enlisted in the United States Navy as a15
commissioned officer, was assigned to the U.S.S. Neosho, based at the Fourteenth Naval16
District Headquarters in Pearl Harbor, and specialized in encryption and communications;17
he was an eyewitness on December 7th, 1941, when Imperial Japan attacked United States18 SR NO. 7

military installations in Hawaii and thrust America into a global war; and1
WHEREAS, absence does make the heart grow fonder; Jackson thought of Rosemary2
every day, sent her orchids on special occasions, and enlisted his father, J. O. Davis, to take3
her to dinner and always relay his loving sentiments; and4
WHEREAS, Rosemary pined for her sweetheart and, after a two-year separation, she5
arrived in Hawaii as a civilian employee also attached to the Fourteenth Naval District6
Headquarters and joined him in that beautiful island paradise; and 7
WHEREAS, Jackson and Rosemary were joined in holy matrimony on January 15,8
1944, at St. Augustine By-the-Sea Catholic Church on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii; and9
WHEREAS, in 1956, a decade after his honorable discharge from military service,10
Jackson Davis, then a successful attorney, launched his political career with election to the11
Louisiana State Senate; a commitment to legislative public service that spanned twenty-four12
years until 1980; and13
WHEREAS, during his tenure as senator, he was a supporter of right-to-work,14
economic development, and higher education legislation; he was a major proponent of the15
establishment of LSU-Shreveport; and during that time, Rosemary was partnered by his side16
to lend her counsel and advise him on thorny issues before the legislature; and17
WHEREAS, true to her Irish heritage, Rosemary loves to wear the color green,18
attends Mass regularly, and serves as an active member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy19
Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Southeastern Lieutenancy of the United States and St. John20
Berchmans Cathedral; and21
WHEREAS, the Davis' steadfast commitment to each other is a beautiful illustration22
of lifelong love and devotion that endures as inspiration to all; and23
WHEREAS, none of the accolades showered upon the Davises have garnered as24
great a sense of satisfaction as those reflecting the productive lives of their children, Jackson25
B. Davis Jr. of Houston, Robert Slattery Davis of Virginia, Rosemary Davis Lassiter of26
Stonewall, and Susan Davis Flanagan of Shreveport; grandchildren, Shannon Eileen Davis27
Peairson, Shawn Matthew Davis, Mary Eileen Lassiter Grant, David Lawrence Lassiter Jr.,28
William Patrick Flanagan, Brian Christopher Flanagan, Robert Joseph Flanagan, and29
Matthew Taylor Flanagan; and great-grandchildren, Jaxon Yoon Seok Peairson, Jade Alicia30 SR NO. 7

Peairson, Peyton Alexander Davis, Avryl Rose Davis, Elyse Mary Davis, Vivien Leigh1
Grant, Davis Lassiter Grant, and Slattery Margaret Grant; and2
WHEREAS, this celebration of the seventieth wedding anniversary of the Davises3
is a joyous and memorable occasion that merits the most sincere congratulations for they are4
role models for living long and aging well.5
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana6
does hereby commend and congratulate Senator and Mrs. Jackson B. Davis upon the7
occasion of their seventieth wedding anniversary and that their expression of love and8
devotion to each other endures and remains a source of pride and honor for their family,9
friends, and community.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does11
hereby extend its best wishes for continued happiness to this wonderful couple for now and12
many years in the future.13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to14
Senator and Mrs. Jackson B. Davis of Shreveport.15
