Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 73 BY SENATORS CLAITOR, BROOME AND DORSEY-COLOMB A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Sue Turner on being selected to receive the George Rodrigue Lifetime Cultural Achievement Award at the 2014 Louisiana Culture Awards and to recognize her many achievements and contributions. WHEREAS, Suzanne "Sue" Turner is a philanthropist and community activist who has worked extensively to preserve historical sites and the arts; and WHEREAS, she is the matriarch and member of the senior executive management board of Turner Industries, founded by her late husband, Bert Turner, which serves the petrochemical, chemical, refining, energy, power generation, and pulp and paper industries, among others, providing a single vendor solution in heavy industrial construction, maintenance, pipe, module and vessel fabrication, equipment, rigging, and heavy hauling, and associated specialty services for nearly fifty years; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Turner has also devoted her time as a member of the boards of several entities, including the Louisiana State Museum, BREC Foundation, Baton Rouge Green, and Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, a native of Plaquemine, Louisiana, Sue Wilbert Turner earned her bachelor's degree in arts and sciences from LSU in 1947, and since that time, has devoted herself to her children and multiple causes and organizations, positively impacting Baton Rouge and the state of Louisiana as a whole; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Turner's contributions have garnered high praise from various agencies, many of which have sought her guidance and direction, and she has repeatedly been recognized for her efforts, including receiving the National Association of County Parks and Recreation's Outstanding Contributor Award in 2010 for her efforts and contributions to save BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation from demolition; and SR NO. 73 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, she has also devoted herself as a trustee for the National Trust for Historical Preservation of which she was a founding member with Winnie Byrd, was the founding member of the Louisiana Association of Museums, and was a founding member, with Bert, of the Pennington Council of 100; and WHEREAS, an LSU Foundation Laureate Society member, Mrs. Turner has served her alma mater as a board member of the LSU Foundation Board of Directors and the LSU Rural Life Museum; she was on the Forever LSU Art Museum Campaign Committee; and she is a trustee emeritus for the LSU Museum of Art; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Turner and her late husband, Bert, have five children, John, Mary, Robert, Suzanne, and Thomas; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Culture Awards are presented annually by the lieutenant governor and the office of cultural development to honor excellence in Louisiana culture, and the 2014 program will be held on April 22, 2014. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Sue Turner on being selected to receive the George Rodrigue Lifetime Cultural Achievement Award at the 2014 Louisiana Culture Awards and recognize her many achievements and contributions. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Sue Turner. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
