SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74
BY SENATOR CLAITOR
COMMENDATIONS. Commends Kris Cangelosi on being selected to receive the Arts
Leadership Award at the 2014 Louisiana Culture Awards.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Kris Cangelosi on being selected to receive the Art2
Leadership Award at the 2014 Louisiana Culture Awards and to recognize her many3
achievements and contributions.4
WHEREAS, Kris Cangelosi is a full-time business owner who directs a dance5
education program as artistic director for Cangelosi Dance Project and has a strong6
reputation as a dance leader in Louisiana; and 7
WHEREAS, in addition to her work as a dance teacher six days a week, she has led8
many individual projects that demonstrate her commitment to the artistic discipline of dance,9
including mentoring high schools and other outreach programs and choreographing more10
than two hundred works a year that are performed at the Manship Theatre and other11
community events; and12
WHEREAS, Kris Cangelosi has also taught at several prestigious dance schools13
throughout the United States and the world and, with forty years of performance experience,14
continues to perform today; and15
WHEREAS, she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge in 1980,16
attained a bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University in choreography and17
performance in 1987 where she was a member of the LSU Dance Theatre and LSU Ballet18 SR NO. 74

Ensemble, and is certified in classical ballet, modern dance, and jazz dance from Dance1
Masters of America Chapter #37; and2
WHEREAS, she is deeply involved in community services providing outreach3
performances for East Baton Rouge Parish, Big Buddy Program, The Red Shoes, Baton4
Rouge Gallery, United Way, and retirement homes, as an artist in elementary and middle5
schools, and performing in the BB Program Dancing with the Stars and Dancing for Cause6
Gonzales; and7
WHEREAS, Kris is a member of LANO, Victory of Baton Rouge Cancer League,8
and LASM, is a sponsor for Women's Hospital Pink, LASM Gala, Baton Rouge Gallery, and9
is a Gold sponsor for Baton Rouge Parents Magazine; and10
WHEREAS, she is a board member and honors chair for Krewe Mystique de la11
Capitale, board member for Prevent Child Abuse, and Program Volunteer in Education for12
United Way, and is active with Women in the Media, Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge,13
Manship Theatre, Theatre Baton Rouge, and Poydras Center in New Roads; and 14
WHEREAS, Kris has completed the Baton Rouge Area Chamber Leadership15
Program and the John Barton nonprofit leadership program; and16
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Culture Awards are presented annually by the lieutenant17
governor and the office of cultural development to honor excellence in Louisiana culture and18
the 2014 program will be held on April 22, 2014.19
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana20
does hereby commend and congratulate Kris Cangelosi on being selected to receive the Arts21
Leadership Award at the 2014 Louisiana Culture Awards and recognize her many22
achievements and contributions.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Kris24
Cangelosi.25
