SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8
BY SENATOR PEACOCK 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Caroline Boley on her numerous accomplishments, her
exemplary and impressive academic achievements, and on being selected as a recipient of
the LSU University Medal.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Caroline Boley on her numerous accomplishments, her2
exemplary academic achievements, and on being honored as a recipient of the LSU3
University Medal.4
WHEREAS, the University Medal is LSU's highest academic achievement and was5
bestowed on only 11 of the 1,582 graduates in the fall commencement on December 20,6
2013; and7
WHEREAS, Caroline Boley, 2010 valedictorian at Captain Shreve High School in8
Shreveport, was one of the medal recipients, made straight As, maintained a 4.0 grade point9
average, and graduated summa cum laude at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge; and10
WHEREAS, while at LSU, Caroline Boley majored in history and did her student11
teaching at Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge; and12
WHEREAS, she was a student worker in the LSU History Department from August13
2011 to May 2013; and 14
WHEREAS, she became founder and president of the LSU Chapter of the National15
Council for the Social Studies, an organization that strives to create a community among16
future secondary teachers of social studies, while offering important tools, skills, and17
connections needed for success; and 18 SR NO. 8

WHEREAS, Caroline was an intern in the office of Governor Bobby Jindal from1
January to May 2011, working sixteen hours a week in the Constituent Services Department,2
responding to the governor's mail, email, and phone calls from the public, coordinating issue3
responses, and processing requests; and4
WHEREAS, she was a member of several honors organizations, including the5
National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Eta Sigma, and Alpha Lambda Delta; and6
WHEREAS, she held Kappa Delta leadership positions and enjoyed giving back to7
the community and living by the sorority's motto, which is to "strive for that which is8
honorable, beautiful, and highest"; and9
WHEREAS, during the medal ceremony with Dr. F. King Alexander, president and10
chancellor of LSU, it was announced that Caroline's favorite place on campus is the exact11
spot her grandfather, Benjamin Van Osdell Jr., stood in a photograph as an LSU student in12
1948 on the side of Himes Hall where the Memorial Tower and building arches can be seen13
in the background; this location fills her with peace and joy, knowing that her grandfather14
once walked the campus, and her mother, sister, aunt, and uncle before her have since stood15
in the very same sentimental spot for a photograph as LSU students, and she hopes to pass16
this tradition on to her children; and17
WHEREAS, Caroline's achievements and service began at Captain Shreve, where18
she was the Legislative Youth Advisory Council member for District 4, a Student Council19
Senator, Girls' State delegate, president of the sophomore and junior class, Captain Shreve20
Student of the Year finalist, NCA All-American Cheerleader and varsity captain, freshman21
and senior maid on the Homecoming Court, junior maid on the Prom Court, Z Club member22
for four years, Northwest Louisiana Literary Rally participant all four years, French Club23
president, Artbreak Idol singing finalist, Northwest Louisiana Food Bank Youth Board24
treasurer, YWCA youth board member, was named to Who's Who and National Honor25
Society, and received the Chesapeake Energy Leadership Award and Tulane Award for26
Academic Achievement/Service; and27
WHEREAS, Caroline is an extraordinary role model for other students and is worthy28
of emulation and public recognition and is a tremendous source of pride for her parents,29
Carolyn and Fred Boley, and her family and friends; and 30 SR NO. 8

WHEREAS, she deserves to be recognized, honored, and respected for her vast1
knowledge and superior academic distinction as well as her exemplary deeds to improve and2
make a positive impact on her campus, and in her city and state; and3
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,4
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication5
of extraordinary young women like Caroline Boley.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana7
hereby recognizes the numerous accomplishments and extraordinary academic record of8
Caroline Boley, and hereby extends congratulations and commendations to her on being9
honored as a recipient of the LSU University Medal.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to11
Caroline Boley.12
