HB NO. 108
Present law establishes fire districts in fire departments in all parishes and fire protection
districts and in any municipality with a population of at least 35,000 but not more than
250,000. Prohibits inclusion of more than four fire stations in a fire district.
Present law requires that an assistant or deputy fire chief be on active duty at all times in
each fire department and that he shall have general supervision over all fire districts and
shall be under the supervision of the chief of the fire department. Requires that a district
chief be on active duty at all times in each fire district and that he shall be in charge of the
district and under the supervision of the assistant or deputy fire chief. Further requires that
any assistant, deputy, or district chief work the same schedule as firefighting personnel under
his command.
Proposed law exempts St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 4 from the provisions of
present law.
