COURTS/JUSTICE OF PEACE.  Provides relative to the appointment of a deputy
constable of a justice of the peace court in Caddo Parish and requires the attorney
general to provide legal representation to deputy constables.
DIGEST
Present law authorizes each constable of a justice of the peace court in Caddo Parish to
appoint one or more deputy constables to assist with the responsibilities of the constable's
office.  Present law further provides relative to the oath of office, residency requirements,
compensation, and payment of insurance premiums and expenses for the deputies.
Proposed law changes the number of appointments authorized by the constable from one or
more deputy constables to one deputy constable and otherwise retains present law.
Present law requires the attorney general to provide legal representation to a justice of the
peace or a constable.
Proposed law retains present law and requires the attorney general to provide legal
representation to deputy constables.
