HOUSE BILL NO. 120

1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 35:191(W)(1)(b) and (9), relative to notaries public; to repeal the
3 termination date relative to provisional notary commissions; to delete the termination
4 date within which a provisional notary candidate may take the uniform exam; and
5 to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 35:191(W)(1)(b) and (9) are hereby amended and reenacted to read
8 as follows:

13	(b)  Notwithstanding any provision of this Section or any other law to the
14 contrary, any person who resides in a parish with a population of less than forty
15 thousand and who passes the examination provided by R.S. 35:191.1, except for any
16 performance assessment component, during examinations administered after January
17 1, 2013, and before August 1, 2016 2017, may be provisionally appointed to the
18 office of notary public in and for that parish upon fulfillment of all requirements of
19 this Subsection and upon meeting all other qualifications necessary to be appointed
20 to the office of notary public in this state.

1	(9)  The provisions of this Subsection shall expire on August 1, 2016 2017,
2 and any commission granted pursuant to this Subsection shall also expire on that
3 date, except if the notary has, subsequent to issuance of a commission pursuant to
4 this Subsection, passed all components of the examination provided by R.S. 35:191.1
5 on or before August 1, 2016 2017.
