FEES/LICENSES/PERMITS: Provides relative to fees collected by the Louisiana State
Board of Medical Examiners
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 37:1281(B) and 1281.2(A), relative to fees collected by the
3 Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners; to increase the fee used for the
4 treatment of certain healthcare providers suffering from conditions which interfere
5 with their ability to practice their profession; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 37:1281(B) and 1281.2(A) are hereby amended and reenacted to read
8as follows:
9 §1281. Fees and costs

11 B.(1) In addition to all other applicable fees and costs attendant to the
12 issuance, renewal, or reinstatement of any license, certificate, permit, or registration
13 issued to a physician by the board pursuant to this Part, the board shall charge and
14 collect an additional annual fee of twenty-five fifty dollars from each physician to
15 be utilized for the identification, monitoring, assistance, and procurement of
16 treatment of physicians suffering from substance abuse, chemical dependency,
17 psychiatric conditions, or physical deficiencies which may interfere with their ability
18 to practice medicine with reasonable skill and safety as defined in R.S.
19 37:1285(A)(25).

1 (2) The twenty-five dollar fee established in this Subsection shall be due and
2 payable at the time of application for the issuance, renewal, or reinstatement of any
3 license, permit, certificate, or registration.

5 §1281.2. Allied practitioner health program; assessment, and self-reporting waiver;
6 protected action and communication
7 A. In addition to all other assessments attendant to the issuance, renewal, or
8 reinstatement of a license, permit, certificate, or registration issued by the board
9 pursuant to this Part, the board shall charge and collect an annual assessment of
10 twenty-five fifty dollars from each medical psychologist, physician assistant, and
11 podiatrist to be utilized for the identification, monitoring, assistance, and
12 procurement of treatment of medical psychologists, physician assistants, and
13 podiatrists suffering from substance abuse, chemical dependency, psychiatric
14 conditions, or physical deficiencies which may interfere with their ability to practice
15 their profession with reasonable skill and safety. The assessment established in this
16 Section shall be due at the time of application for the issuance, renewal, or
17 reinstatement of a license, permit, certificate, or registration.

Abstract: Increases the fee collected by the La. State Board of Medical Examiners for the
treatment of healthcare providers regulated by the board who are suffering from
conditions which interfere with their ability to practice their profession.
Present law authorizes the La. State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) to regulate the
practice of physicians, psychologists, physician assistants, and podiatrists.
Present law authorizes the LSBME to collect certain fees at the time of application for
licensure, permit, certificate, or registration including an annual assessment of $25 to be
used in the identification, monitoring, assistance, and procurement of treatment of those
licensees suffering from substance abuse, chemical dependency, psychiatric conditions, or
physical deficiencies which may interfere with their ability to practice their profession with
reasonable skill and safety.

Proposed law increases this fee from $25 to $50.
