Abstract:  Increases the fee collected by the La. State Board of Medical Examiners for the treatment
of healthcare providers regulated by the board who are suffering from conditions which
interfere with their ability to practice their profession.
Present law authorizes the La. State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) to regulate the practice
of physicians, psychologists, physician assistants, and podiatrists.
Present law authorizes the LSBME to collect certain fees at the time of application for licensure,
permit, certificate, or registration including an annual assessment of $25 to be used in the
identification, monitoring, assistance, and procurement of treatment of those licensees suffering from
substance abuse, chemical dependency, psychiatric conditions, or physical deficiencies which may
interfere with their ability to practice their profession with reasonable skill and safety. 
Proposed law increases this fee from $25 to $50.
