AGRICULTURE/SWEET POTATO: Modifies the disbursement amount of sweet potato
tax money collected
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 3:1746(C), relative to sweet potato tax disbursements; to provide
3 for an increase in sweet potato tax disbursements; to provide for the modification of
4 the percentages of disbursements allocated to the Louisiana Sweet Potato
5 Association and the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station; and to provide for
6 related matters.
7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 3:1746(C) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
9 ยง1746. Collection, deposit, and disbursement of sweet potato tax money
10 * * *
11 C. The proceeds of one cent two cents of the four-cent per bushel tax
12 collected each year shall be disbursed by the commissioner when authorized by a
13 majority of the commission as follows:
14 (1) One-fourth One-eighth of the above amount to finance activities and
15 services initiated by the Louisiana Sweet Potato Association as approved by a
16 majority of the members of the commission.
17 (2) Three-fourths Seven-eighths of the above amount to the Louisiana
18 Agricultural Experiment Station to finance sweet potato research work as approved
19 by a majority of the members of the commission.

Abstract: Increases the amount of sweet potato tax money that the Commissioner of
Agriculture and Forestry shall disburse to the La. Sweet Potato Association and the
La. Agricultural Experiment Station. Modifies the percentages of the sweet potato
tax money allocated to the La. Sweet Potato Association and the La. Agricultural
Experiment Station.
Present law requires that one cent of the four-cent per bushel tax collected be disbursed by
the commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry when authorized by a majority of the La.
Sweet Potato Advertising and Development Commission. Proposed law increases that
amount to two cents of the four-cent bushel tax.
Present law requires that the La. Sweet Potato Association receive one-fourth of the amount
collected for disbursement. Proposed law decreases the disbursement percentage from one-
fourth to one-eighth.
Present law requires that the La. Agricultural Experiment Station receive three-fourths of the
amount collected for disbursement. Proposed law increases the disbursement percentage
from three-fourths to seven-eighths.
