ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 181 BY REPRESENTATIVE BROWN 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 17:3048.1(A)(1)(a)(iii)(gg), relative to receipt of awards from the Louisiana 3 Taylor Opportunity Program for Students; to provide relative to citizenship 4 requirements for receipt of such award; and to provide for related matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 17:3048.1(A)(1)(a)(iii)(gg) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง3048.1. Program awards; eligibility; amounts; limitations; funding; administration 8 A.(1) As part of the Louisiana Taylor Opportunity Program for Students, the 9 state shall financially assist any student who enrolls on a full-time basis in a public 10 college or university in this state or a regionally accredited independent college or 11 university in the state that is a member of the Louisiana Association of Independent 12 Colleges and Universities, hereafter in this Chapter referred to collectively as 13 "eligible colleges or universities", to pursue an academic undergraduate degree or, 14 as provided by this Subsection, skill or occupational training as defined by the 15 administering agency including a vocational or technical education certificate or 16 diploma program or a nonacademic undergraduate degree, and who meets the 17 qualifications of Subparagraph (b), (c), or (d) of this Paragraph and all of the 18 applicable following qualifications: 19 (a) 20 * * * 21 (iii) 22 * * * 23 (gg) For a student graduating from high school during the 2018-2019 school 24 year and thereafter, a student who is not a citizen of the United States but who is the Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions. HB NO. 181 ENROLLED 1 child of a non-United States citizen who is either serving in any branch of the United 2 States armed forces or has been honorably discharged from any branch of the United 3 States armed forces shall be deemed to satisfy the citizenship requirement of this 4 Item. 5 * * * 6 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 7 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 8 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 9 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 10 effective on the day following such approval.
