Thierry HB No. 231 (KEYWORD, SUMMARY, AND DIGEST as amended by Senate committee amendments) COURTS/COURT COSTS: Authorizes an increase in fees charged by court reporters in the 27th Judicial District Court DIGEST Abstract: Authorizes an increase in court reporter fees for the 27th Judicial District Court upon review and recommendation of the Judicial Council that costs meet the applicable guidelines. Present law authorizes the court reporters in the 27th JDC to charge and collect as compensation in addition to salary, a fee of $2.50 per page for the original and 50¢ per page for copies reported and transcribed in all civil and criminal cases. Proposed law retains present law except that it changes the collected fees from $2.50 to $3.50. Present law requires court reporters to be paid a fee of $2.25 per 31-line page transcript and 25¢ per page for each copy, as funds become available, to be paid from the criminal indigent transcript fund by the court. Proposed law provides for the increase in court costs to become effective if and when the Judicial Council reviews such request and makes a recommendation to the legislature in its 2016 report that costs meet the applicable guidelines.
