INSURANCE/GROUP-SHERI FFS: Provides relative to the payment of group insurance
premiums for retired sheriffs and deputy sheriffs hired on or after July 1, 2015, for
Allen Parish
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 13:5554(EE), relative to the premium costs of group insurance for retired
3 sheriffs and deputy sheriffs of the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office; to provide for
4 eligibility for payment of such costs for retired sheriffs and retired deputy sheriffs
5 of the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office; to provide for effective dates; and to provide for
6 related matters.
7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 13:5554(EE) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
9 ยง5554. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation

11 EE. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, the
12 Allen Parish Sheriff's Office shall pay the premium costs of group and the first ten
13 thousand dollars of life insurance out of the sheriff's general fund for any retired
14 sheriff and any retired deputy sheriff who was hired on or after July 1, 2015, and
15 retired from the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office as follows:
16 (1) Fifty percent of the premium costs of group insurance for health, vision,
17 and dental for any sheriff or deputy sheriff who retires from the Allen Parish
18 Sheriff's Office with fifteen years of full-time continuous service with the Allen
19 Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five years of age.

1 (2) Seventy percent of the premium costs of group insurance for health,
2 vision, and dental for any sheriff or deputy sheriff who retires from the Allen Parish
3 Sheriff's Office with twenty years of full-time continuous service with the Allen
4 Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five years of age.
5 (3) One hundred percent of the premium costs of group insurance for health,
6 vision, and dental for any sheriff or deputy sheriff who retires from the Allen Parish
7 Sheriff's Office with twenty-five years of creditable service with the Louisiana
8 Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund and is a least fifty-five years of age.
9 (4) One hundred percent of the premium costs of group insurance for health,
10 vision, and dental for any sheriff or deputy sheriff who retires from the Allen Parish
11 Sheriff's Office with thirty years of creditable service with the Louisiana Sheriff's
12 Pension and Relief Fund regardless of age.
13 (5) The provisions of Paragraph (G)(1) of this Section shall apply to all
14 persons hired by the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office prior to July 1, 2015.

Abstract: Provides relative to the payment of group and life insurance premiums for retired
sheriffs and deputy sheriffs hired on or after July 1, 2015, for Allen Parish Sheriff's
Office.
Present law requires that 100% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, and medical
expense insurance shall be paid from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy
sheriffs who retire from the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office with at least 15 years of service
who are at least 55 years of age or retired with at least 30 years of service at any age.
Proposed law retains present law for those sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire prior to
July 1, 2015.
Proposed law requires, for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire from the Allen Parish
Sheriff's Office on or after July 1, 2015, that premium costs of group health, vision, and
dental and the first $10,000 of life insurance shall be paid from the sheriff's general fund as
follows:
(1)50% of the premium cost paid with 15 years of continuous service and at least 55
years of age.

(2)70% of the premium cost paid with at least 20 years of service and at least 55 years
of age.
(3)100% of the premium cost paid with at least 25 years of credible service with the
Louisiana Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund and at least 55 years of age.
(4)100% of the premium cost paid with at least 30 years of credible service with the
Louisiana Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund regardless of age.
