HB 281 Engrossed 2015 Regular Session Hill
Abstract: Provides relative to the payment of group and life insurance premiums for retired sheriffs
and deputy sheriffs hired on or after July 1, 2015, for Allen Parish Sheriff's Office.
Present law requires that 100% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, and medical
expense insurance shall be paid from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs
who retire from the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office with at least 15 years of service who are at least 55
years of age or retired with at least 30 years of service at any age.
Proposed law retains present law for those sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire prior to July 1,
2015.
Proposed law requires, for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire from the Allen Parish Sheriff's
Office on or after July 1, 2015, that premium costs of group health, vision, and dental and the first
$10,000 of life insurance shall be paid from the sheriff's general fund as follows:
(1)50% of the premium cost paid with 15 years of continuous service and at least 55 years of
age.
(2)70% of the premium cost paid with at least 20 years of service and at least 55 years of age.
(3)100% of the premium cost paid with at least 25 years of credible service with the Louisiana
Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund and at least 55 years of age.
(4)100% of the premium cost paid with at least 30 years of credible service with the Louisiana
Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund regardless of age.
