Abstract: Changes the jurisdictional amount in dispute in the Third Ward City Court of Franklin
from $35,000 to $50,000.
Present law provides that in the city courts of Alexandria, Pineville, Slidell, and Ruston, the civil
jurisdiction is concurrent with the district court in cases where the amount in dispute, or the value
of the property involved, does not exceed $50,000.
Proposed law retains present law and adds the requirement that in the Third Ward City Court of
Franklin the jurisdictional amount in dispute or value of property does not exceed $50,000.

Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The House Floor Amendments to the engrossed bill:
1. Remove proposed law provision that changes the civil jurisdictional amount in dispute
for the city courts of Minden and Springhill from $50,000 to $35,000.
2. Provide that the civil jurisdictional amount in dispute shall not exceed $50,000 for the
Third Ward City Court of Franklin.
