[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 342 Engrossed 2015 Regular Session Gisclair Abstract: Adds vaccinations for meningococcal disease to list of required vaccinations for students entering educational institutions for the first time. Present law provides with respect to immunization of persons entering schools, kindergartens, colleges, proprietary or vocational schools, and day care centers for the first time. Requires each person entering such an institution, at the time of registration or entry, to present satisfactory evidence of immunity to or immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases according to a schedule approved by the office of public health, Dept. of Health and Hospitals, or to present evidence of an immunization program in progress. Present law provides that the schedule may provide specific requirements based on age, grade of school, or type of school. Authorizes an educational institution or licensed day care center, at its own discretion and with the approval of the office of public health, to require immunization or proof of immunity more extensive than required by the schedule approved by the office of public health. Present law provides that the schedule shall include but not be limited to measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, poliomyelitis, and hemophilus influenzae Type B invasive infections. Proposed law adds meningococcal disease to list of diseases included in schedule; otherwise retains present law. (Amends R.S. 17:170(A)(2))
