MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES:  Creates the "Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary
Medal" specialty license plate
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 47:490.29, relative to military honor license plates; to provide for the
3 establishment of a military honor license plate for the recipients of the Global War
4 on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; to require the promulgation of rules and
5 regulations relative to the creation and implementation of a military honor license
6 plate; and to provide for related matters.
7Be enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1.  R.S. 47:490.29 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
9 ยง490.29.  Military honor license plates; "Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary
10	Medal"
11	A.  The provisions of this Section shall be applicable to Global War on
12 Terrorism Expeditionary Medal recipients.
13	B.  Upon application of a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal
14 recipient, the secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall
15 issue a military honor license plate to be used in lieu of a regular motor vehicle
16 registration plate.  The license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars,
17 pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans.  The military honor
18 license plate shall be known as the "Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal"

1 license plate and shall bear a likeness of the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary
2 Medal centered on the left side of the license plate and the words "Global War on
3 Terrorism Medal" centered on the bottom of the plate under the license plate number.
4	C.  The fee for this license plate shall be the standard motor vehicle
5 registration license fee provided for in R.S. 47:463.
6	D.  The secretary shall adopt rules and regulations to implement the
7 provisions of this Section, including but not limited to rules governing the transfer
8 of the license plates from one vehicle to another and the disposition of such license
9 plates.
10	E.(1)  Any applicant who qualifies for the military honor license plate
11 authorized by this Section may be issued a plate for each vehicle registered in the
12 applicant's name.
13	(2)  Except as otherwise provided in this Paragraph, each military honor
14 license plate issued pursuant to this Section shall be returned to the secretary upon
15 the death of the person to whom the plate was issued.  A surviving spouse of a
16 person to whom a license plate was issued pursuant to this Section may retain a
17 license plate issued pursuant to this Section, provided the surviving spouse has not
18 remarried and provided the surviving spouse applies to the secretary for a transfer
19 of the license plate to the surviving spouse.  A military honor license plate
20 transferred pursuant to this Paragraph to a surviving spouse shall be returned to the
21 secretary upon the death or remarriage of the surviving spouse.  In the event that a
22 Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal recipient holds more than one
23 military honor license plate at the time the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary
24 Medal recipient dies, the surviving spouse may determine which of the license plates
25 the surviving spouse wishes to retain.

Abstract:  Creates the "Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal" special prestige
license plate.
Proposed law creates the "Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal" license plate for
recipients of the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and provides for the use,
name, fee, design, and specifications of the specialty plate.
Proposed law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to develop
and adopt rules relative to the implementation of the specialty plate including the transfer
of the license plate to the surviving spouse and the disposition of the specialty plate.
