R.S. 3:2094(introductory paragraph) is hereby amended and reenacted and 8R.S. 3:2094(B) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 9 ยง2094. Powers of the state veterinarian 10 A. In consultation with cognizant federal officials and agencies and based 13 upon an epidemiological evaluation of the current risk of introduction or spread of 14 disease, the state veterinarian may place any animal used for research in quarantine 15 until the disease risk has abated. Present law authorizes the state veterinarian to place livestock in quarantine until the necessary inspections, tests, or epidemiological investigations have been completed. Proposed law expands the authority to quarantine in present law to any animal used for research, after consultation with cognizant federal officials and agencies, until the disease risk has abated. (Amends R.S. 3:2094(intro. para.); Adds R.S. 3:2094(B)) Summary of Amendments Adopted by House The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development to the original bill: 1. Delete a provision that expanded the authority of the state veterinarian to quarantine all animals, instead of solely livestock. 2. Add a provision that allows the state veterinarian, after consultation with cognizant federal officials and agencies, to place any animal used for research in quarantine until the disease risk has abated.
