Abstract: Authorizes the state veterinarian to place any animal in quarantine until the necessary
inspections, tests, or epidemiological investigations have been completed.
Present law authorizes the state veterinarian to place livestock in quarantine until the necessary
inspections, tests, or epidemiological investigations have been completed. Proposed law expands the
authority to quarantine in present law to any animal used for research, after consultation with
cognizant federal officials and agencies, until the disease risk has abated.

Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Agriculture, Forestry,
Aquaculture, and Rural Development to the original bill:
1. Delete a provision that expanded the authority of the state veterinarian to quarantine all
animals, instead of solely livestock.
2. Add a provision that allows the state veterinarian, after consultation with cognizant
federal officials and agencies, to place any animal used for research in quarantine until
the disease risk has abated.
