MTR VEHICLE/PUBLIC: Creates an ALS special prestige license plate 1 AN ACT 2To enact R.S. 47:463.183, relative to motor vehicle special prestige license plates; to provide 3 for the "Challenge ALS" special prestige license plate; to provide for creation, 4 issuance, and design of such license plates; to provide relative to the fee and 5 distribution of fees for such plates; to authorize the promulgation of rules and 6 regulations relative to the creation and implementation of a special prestige license 7 plate; and to provide for related matters. 8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 9 Section 1. R.S. 47:463.183 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 10 ยง463.183. Special prestige license plates; "ALS" 11 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall 12 establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "Challenge 13 ALS" plate. These license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup 14 trucks, recreational vehicles, and vans. The color and design of the license plate shall be selected by the ALS 2 Association Lousiana-Mississippi Chapter, provided it is in compliance with R.S. 3 47:463(A)(3). The design shall include the words "Challenge ALS". 4 C. The special prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any 5 citizen of Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate. 6 D. The department shall collect an annual royalty fee of thirty dollars that 7 shall be disbursed in accordance with Subsection E of this Section. This fee shall be 8 in addition to the standard motor vehicle license tax imposed by Article VII, Section 9 5 of the Constitution of Louisiana, and a handling fee of three dollars and fifty cents 10 for each plate to be retained by the department to offset a portion of administrative 11 costs. 12 E. The annual royalty fee collected by the department shall be forwarded to 13 the ALS Association Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter or its successor organization. 14 The monies received from the royalty fees shall be used solely for amyotrophic 15 lateral sclerosis research. 16 F.
