HB 595 Original	2015 Regular Session	Stuart Bishop
Abstract: Authorizes an automobile expense allowance for all parish assessors equal to 15% of the
assessor's salary to be paid from existing funds of the assessor's office.
Present law authorizes an automobile expense allowance for the assessor in Washington Parish, as
well as the assessors in the Iberia Parish Assessment District and Webster Parish Assessment
District. The allowance is equal to 15% of the assessor's annual salary and payable out of existing
or surplus funds of the assessor's office, provided the assessor maintains $300,000 of automobile
insurance per accident for bodily injury and $100,000 of automobile insurance per accident for
property damage.
Present law authorizes an automobile expense allowance for the assessor in the Evangeline
Assessment District. The allowance is equal to 12% of the assessor's annual salary and payable out
of surplus funds of the assessor's office, provided the assessor maintains $300,000 of automobile
insurance per accident for bodily injury and $100,000 of automobile insurance per accident for
property damage.
Proposed law repeals present law as it relates to the assessor in Washington, Evangeline, and Iberia
Parishes in favor of authorizing an automobile expense allowance for all parish assessors and
assessors in assessment districts. The allowance is equal to 15% of the assessor's annual salary,
payable out of existing funds of the assessor's office, provided the assessor maintains $300,000 of
automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and $100,000 of automobile insurance per
accident for property damage. The expense allowance shall be funded by the assessor and at no
additional expense to the state or local governing authority.
Proposed law increases the amount of the authorization of the automobile expense allowance in
Evangeline Parish from 12% of the assessor's annual salary to 15% of the assessor's annual salary.
