R.S. 45:1161.1 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง1161.1. Creation; composition; age; residence; domicile; qualifications; election; 8 terms 9 A. There shall be a public service commission Public Service Commission, 10 which shall consist of five members, who shall be qualified electors. The members 11 shall be elected from single-member districts, established as provided by law. 12 B. An elector who at the time of qualification as a candidate has attained the 13 age of eighteen years, resided in the state for the preceding two years, and been 14 actually domiciled for the prededing year in the single-member district established 15 by law from which he seeks election is eligible for election to the commission. 16 C. Present law provides for a Public Service Commission consisting of five members elected from single-member districts established by law. Requires members to be elected at congressional elections for overlapping terms of six years. Additionally requires members to be qualified electors and to take office and begin their terms on the first day of Jan. following election. Proposed law retains present law. Additionally, provides that to be eligible for election to the commission, a candidate must at the time of qualification satisfy the following requirements: (1)Attained the age of 18 years. (2)Resided in the state for the preceding two years. (3)Been actually domiciled for the preceding year in the district from which he seeks election. (Amends R.S. 45:1161.1) Summary of Amendments Adopted by House The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on House and Governmental Affairs to the original bill: 1. Specify that the period of time during which the candidate must have been actually domiciled in the district is the year preceding qualification.
