SUPPLEMENTAL PAY: Provides with respect to the determination of prior service for supplemental pay for law enforcement officers 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1667.1(B), relative to supplemental pay for certain law 3 enforcement officers; to include certain prior service in computing the period of 4 service required for the payment of supplemental pay; and to provide for related 5 matters. 6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. RS. 40:1667.1(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8 ยง1667.1. Rate of compensation; prior service; supplemental monthly compensation; 9 police to receive additional compensation 10 * * * 11 B.(1) In computing the period of service required by Subsection A of this 12 Section, service as a police officer and as chief of police with peace officer standards 13 and training (POST) certification in the municipality or tribe shall include prior 14 service for those police officers and chiefs of police who have returned or hereafter 15 return to such service. In addition, in computing the period of service required by 16 Subsection A of this Section, service as a police officer and as chief of police in the 17 municipality or tribe shall include prior service as a commissioned deputy sheriff 18 receiving extra compensation under the provisions of R.S. 40:1667.7, shall include 19 prior service as a P.O.S.T.-certified law enforcement officer employed on a full-time 20 basis by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries or the Department of Public Safety 21 and Corrections, including the division of probation and parole, and shall include Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions. HLS 15RS-346 REENGROSSED HB NO. 71 1 prior service of retired state police officers who received extra compensation under 2 the provisions of R.S. 40:1457. 3 (2) In computing the period of service required for the payment of extra 4 compensation to a commissioned deputy sheriff pursuant to the provisions of R.S. 5 40:1667.7, service as a full-time commissioned deputy sheriff shall include prior 6 service as a full-time police officer receiving extra compensation under the 7 provisions of Subsection A of this Section, shall also include prior service as a 8 P.O.S.T.-certified law enforcement officer employed on a full-time post-certified 9 enforcement agent of the basis by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries or the 10 Department of Public Safety and Corrections, including the division of probation and 11 parole, and shall include prior service of retired state police officers who received 12 extra compensation under the provisions of R.S. 40:1457. 13 * * * DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services. Present law provides for state supplemental pay of $500 per month for full-time municipal police officers and deputy sheriffs who have completed one year of service. For municipal law enforcement officers, present law allows prior service as a deputy sheriff or as a certain type of retired state police officer to count towards the one year of service requirement. For deputy sheriffs, present law allows prior service as a municipal police officer, an enforcement agent of the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries, or certain retired state police officers to count towards the one year of service requirement. Proposed law expands prior service for municipal law enforcement officers to include service as a P.O.S.T.-certified law enforcement officer employed full-time by the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries or the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to count towards the one year of service requirement. Proposed law expands prior service for deputy sheriffs to include service as a P.O.S.T.- certified officer of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to count towards the one year of service requirement.
