ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 103 BY REPRESENTATIVE ST. GERMAIN A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, Louisiana is driving towards zero deaths on our roads and highways, and the Strategic Highway Safety Plan is the vehicle to drive us to our destination; and WHEREAS, the state is divided into nine transportation safety coalitions that are staffed by the metropolitan planning organizations of each parish to oversee the implementation of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan at the regional level; and WHEREAS, the Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition holds regular meetings to coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan in the eight parish area of the coalition, including West Feliciana, East Feliciana, Point Coupee, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, Ascension, and Livingston; and WHEREAS, the mission of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan is to reduce the human and economic toll on Louisiana's surface transportation system due to traffic crashes through widespread collaboration and a data-driven, integrated 4E approach; and WHEREAS, the Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition works closely with the Department of Transportation and Development and the office of state police to track progress in implementing their Strategic Highway Safety Plan at the regional level and to achieve safety goals of the coalition's five emphasis areas: young drivers, impaired driving, bikes and pedestrians, infrastructure and operations, and occupant protection; and WHEREAS, the Legislature commends the Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition for completing and adopting their regional safety plan after a year of hard work and dedication. Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 103 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition Day at the state capitol and commend the Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition for a job well done. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the executive director of the Capital Area Region Planning Commission.
