HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 105
BY REPRESENTATIVE ADAMS
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes May 2015 as Building Safety Month
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To designate and recognize May 2015 as Building Safety Month as sponsored by the
3 International Code Council to raise awareness of the important role of building codes
4 for the health, safety, and welfare of the public. 
5 WHEREAS, Louisiana's continuing efforts to address the critical issues of safety,
6energy efficiency, water conservation, and resilience of the built environment that affect our
7citizens, both in everyday life and in times of natural disaster, give us confidence that our
8structures are safe and sound; and  
9 WHEREAS, our state's confidence is achieved through the devotion of vigilant
10guardians such as building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders,
11tradespeople, laborers, and others in the construction industry who work year-round to
12ensure the safe construction of buildings; and
13 WHEREAS, dedicated members of the International Code Council use a
14governmental consensus process that brings together local, state, and federal officials with
15expertise in the built environment to create and implement the highest quality codes to
16protect Americans in the buildings where we live, learn, work, worship, and play; and 
17 WHEREAS, the International Codes, the most widely adopted building safety,
18energy, and fire prevention codes in the nation are used by most United States cities,
19counties, and states; and

1 WHEREAS, these modern building codes also include safeguards to protect the
2public from natural disasters such as hurricanes, snowstorms, tornadoes, wildland fires,
3floods, and earthquakes; and
4 WHEREAS, Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council
5as a campaign to remind the public about the critical role of our communities' largely
6unknown guardians of public safety, and such unknown guardians are our local code
7officials who assure us of safe, efficient, and livable buildings; and
8 WHEREAS, "Resilient Communities Start with Building Codes" is the theme for
9Building Safety Month 2015; and
10 WHEREAS, this theme encourages all Americans to raise awareness of fire
11prevention, disaster mitigation, water safety and conservation, energy efficiency and new
12technologies in the construction industry, and the importance of building safe and resilient
13constructions; and
14 WHEREAS, Building Safety Month 2015 encourages appropriate steps that everyone
15can take to ensure that the places where we live, learn, work, worship, and play are safe and
16sustainable, and recognizes that countless lives have been saved due to the implementation
17of safety codes by local and state agencies; and
18 WHEREAS, each year, in observance of Building Safety Month, Americans are
19asked to consider projects to improve building safety and sustainability at home and in the
20community, and to acknowledge the essential service provided to all of us by local and state
21building departments, fire prevention bureaus, and federal agencies in protecting lives and
22property.
23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
24designate and recognize May 2015 as Building Safety Month as sponsored by the
25International Code Council.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
27encourage the citizens of the state of Louisiana to join with their communities for
28participation in Building Safety Month Activities. 
29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
30to Mark Roberts, Senior Regional Manager of the International Code Council.
