2015 Regular Session
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 116
BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLMOTT
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To recognize Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as nurse practitioners day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners have been providing primary, acute, and specialty
health care for nearly fifty years; and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners, as defined in Louisiana statutes, are advanced
practice registered nurses who are educated in a specified area of care, certified according
to the requirements of a nationally recognized accrediting agency, and possess a master's or
doctoral degree; and
WHEREAS, as clinicians who combine clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating
health conditions with an added emphasis on disease prevention and health management,
nurse practitioners are the trusted healthcare providers of choice for millions of patients
across the United States; and
WHEREAS, patients for whom nurse practitioners are primary care providers have
fewer instances of emergency room visits, shorter hospital stays, and often have lower
medication costs because nurse practitioners provide both high-quality care and health
counseling; and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners are particularly valuable healthcare providers in
Louisiana, as they improve access to health services in the many health professional shortage
areas of this state and enhance consumer choice for primary care, especially for rural and
other underserved populations.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the nurse practitioners of this state for faithfully providing the highest quality of
patient-centered health care and does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as nurse
practitioners day at the state capitol.
