HLS 15RS-2282 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 118 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates Wednesday, May 13, 2015, as School Board Member and School Superintendent Recognition Day at the state capitol 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To designate Wednesday, May 13, 2015, as School Board Member and School 3 Superintendent Recognition Day at the state capitol. 4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) strives daily to fulfill 5its mission of leadership, service, and support for local school boards; and 6 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents (LASS) strives 7daily to fulfill its mission of promoting strong and professional educational leadership; and 8 WHEREAS, LSBA and LASS recognize that an effective educational system 9requires meaningful collaboration; and 10 WHEREAS, local school boards in the state of Louisiana help determine goals for 11the education of approximately seven hundred thousand children in prekindergarten through 12twelfth grade; and 13 WHEREAS, Louisiana's local school board members, who represent all sixty-nine 14school districts in Louisiana, serve as advocates for public school students as they work with 15administrators, teachers, and parents to improve public schools; and 16 WHEREAS, Louisiana's sixty-nine school superintendents work with school boards 17and educational stakeholders in the community for the overall betterment of public education 18for students; and 19 WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents strive to provide the resources 20necessary to meet the needs of all students, including students with special needs; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 15RS-2282 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 118 1 WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents also provide accountability to the 2public, communicate the needs of the school district to the public, and convey to school 3administrators the public's expectations for the schools; and 4 WHEREAS, it is imperative that all citizens of Louisiana work with their local 5school boards and school superintendents toward the improvement of public education for 6students in Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, the LSBA appreciates the efforts of all legislators, especially 8Representative Edward C. "Ted" James II, the 2014 Louisiana School Boards Association 9Legislator of the Year from the House of Representatives; and 10 WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature of Louisiana sincerely appreciate the 11important contributions of local school board members and school superintendents. 12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 13commend local school board members and school superintendents for their extraordinary 14services to the state of Louisiana and does hereby designate Wednesday, May 13, 2015, as 15School Board Member and School Superintendent Day at the state capitol. 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 17to the presidents of the Louisiana School Boards Association and the Louisiana Association 18of School Superintendents.
