AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, BROWN, BUFFINGTON, CHABERT, CLAITOR,
CORTEZ, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY-COLOMB, ERDEY, GALLOT,
GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JOHNS, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARTINY,
MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MURRAY, NEVERS, PEACOCK, PERRY,
PETERSON, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON,
WALSWORTH, WARD, AND WHITE
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To designate Wednesday, May 13, 2015, as School Board Member and School
Superintendent Recognition Day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) strives daily to fulfill
its mission of leadership, service, and support for local school boards; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents (LASS) strives
daily to fulfill its mission of promoting strong and professional educational leadership; and
WHEREAS, LSBA and LASS recognize that an effective educational system
requires meaningful collaboration; and
WHEREAS, local school boards in the state of Louisiana help determine goals for
the education of approximately seven hundred thousand children in prekindergarten through
twelfth grade; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's local school board members, who represent all sixty-nine
school districts in Louisiana, serve as advocates for public school students as they work with
administrators, teachers, and parents to improve public schools; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's sixty-nine school superintendents work with school boards
and educational stakeholders in the community for the overall betterment of public education
for students; and
WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents strive to provide the resources
necessary to meet the needs of all students, including students with special needs; and

WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents also provide accountability to the
public, communicate the needs of the school district to the public, and convey to school
administrators the public's expectations for the schools; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that all citizens of Louisiana work with their local
school boards and school superintendents toward the improvement of public education for
students in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the LSBA appreciates the efforts of all legislators, especially
Representative Edward C. "Ted" James II, the 2014 Louisiana School Boards Association
Legislator of the Year from the House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature of Louisiana sincerely appreciate the
important contributions of local school board members and school superintendents.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend local school board members and school superintendents for their extraordinary
services to the state of Louisiana and does hereby designate Wednesday, May 13, 2015, as
School Board Member and School Superintendent Day at the state capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the presidents of the Louisiana School Boards Association and the Louisiana Association
of School Superintendents.
