HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 120

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To designate the week of May 10 through May 16, 2015, as Police Week in the state of
Louisiana and to commend the service of law enforcement officers.
WHEREAS, there are approximately nine hundred thousand law enforcement
officers serving in communities across the United States; and
WHEREAS, nearly sixty thousand assaults against law enforcement officers are
reported each year, resulting in approximately sixteen thousand injuries; and
WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1791, more than twenty thousand law
enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice and have been
killed in the line of duty, including three members of the Louisiana Law Enforcement
Community; and
WHEREAS, the names of these notable public servants are engraved on the walls of
the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, thirty-eight new names of fallen heroes will be added to the National
Law Enforcement Officers Memorial this spring; these new names will include the one
hundred seventeen officers killed in 2014 and the one hundred fifty-six officers killed in
previous years; and
WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers who have been killed in the line
of duty will be honored during the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's
27th Annual Candlelight Vigil held on May 13, 2015; and
WHEREAS, May 15, 2015, is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor
all of the fallen officers and their families.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate the week of May 10 through May 16, 2015, as Police Week in the state of
Louisiana and does hereby commend law enforcement officers for their service in
communities across the United States.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police.
