HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 131
BY REPRESENTATIVES BROADWATER, HALL, AND HAZEL
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Gene Rushing upon his retirement as head coach of
Louisiana College's men's basketball program
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend Gene Rushing, of Pineville, Louisiana, upon his retirement from Louisiana
3 College as the men's head basketball coach.
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Gene Rushing upon his retirement from
5Louisiana College, where for more than thirty years, he has been a part of Louisiana College
6men's basketball; and
7 WHEREAS, in 1967, Mr. Rushing began his legacy at Louisiana College as an
8outstanding basketball player; he spent two years as a player, eleven years as an assistant
9coach, and twenty-nine years as the head coach for the men's basketball team; and
10 WHEREAS, he had a 335-431 record at Louisiana College including a stretch
11between 1987 and 1991, where he had a record of 102-48; he won an NAIA district title and
12made an appearance in the NAIA national tournament; with the coaching skills of Mr.
13Rushing, Louisiana College moved to NCAA Division III, beginning in the 2001-2002
14season; and
15 WHEREAS, Coach Rushing is recognized as the winningest coach in Louisiana
16College's history and his commitment and loyalty to Louisiana College is unmatchable; and
17 WHEREAS, under Coach Rushing's leadership, every basketball player recruited by
18him left Louisiana College with a degree; and
19 WHEREAS, Coach Rushing has been the epitome of what Louisiana College
20represents; he has prepared his players to succeed both on and off the court and has sent
21hundreds of young men into the professional world; and

1 WHEREAS, in recognition of his extraordinary coaching skills, Coach Rushing was
2inducted into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame in the fall of 2006; and
3 WHEREAS, his compassion for young people, basketball, and his drive to succeed
4will forever be remembered by his former players, colleagues, and his community; and
5 WHEREAS, Coach Rushing will always be respected and admired for the wonderful
6guidance he gave to his players both on and off the court, as he challenged them to succeed
7not only as athletes but as well-rounded human beings, and upon the end of his monumental
8coaching career at Louisiana College, Coach Rushing merits a special measure of
9commendation for his outstanding accomplishments and his enduring legacy that will long
10continue to be a source of tremendous pride for the innumerable players, coworkers, and fans
11whose lives he touched during his unforgettable career at Louisiana College.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
13commend Gene Rushing upon his retirement as head coach of the Louisiana College men's
14basketball team; does hereby express to him sincere appreciation for his exemplary
15leadership of Louisiana College's men's basketball program and for the honor he has brought
16to the school, community, and the state of Louisiana; and does hereby extend to him every
17good wish for success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
19to Gene Rushing.
