GERMAIN, BARROW, HILL, HODGES, JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON, DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON COMMENDATIONS: Commends Tabitha Ann Kearns upon her receipt of a 2015 High School Woman of Excellence Award and scholarship from the La. Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To commend Tabitha Ann Kearns upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award 3 from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High 4 School Woman of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative 5 Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. 6 WHEREAS, Tabitha Ann Kearns is a senior at Edward Douglas White Catholic High 7School in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where she is a servant leader through Key Club; and 8 WHEREAS, she served as the eighth grade and freshman class representative for her 9school's Key Club, and in 2012, she undertook the position of vice president; Tabitha served 10as lieutenant governor of the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District and supervised 11thirteen clubs in Lafourche, Terrebonne, and St. Mary parishes; and 12 WHEREAS, through her experience on the district board and her passion for service, 13Tabitha rose to the position of governor of the three-state district; in this position, she served 14one hundred fifty active clubs and led a district board consisting of thirteen lieutenant 15governors and three executive officers; and 16 WHEREAS, Tabitha chose to work with and support The Eliminate Project, a special 17initiative partnership between Kiwanis International and the United Nations Children's Fund 18(UNICEF) to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the world; during Tabitha's term Page 1 of 4 HLS 15RS-2539 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 146 1as governor, her district raised approximately twenty-five thousand dollars for The Eliminate 2Project; and 3 WHEREAS, during her five years as a Key Clubber, she has devoted approximately 4nine hundred hours in service to her home, school, and community; and 5 WHEREAS, through her passion to find a community of teens grounded in faith, 6Tabitha founded a group called Sisters in Christ, which allows teens to discuss social 7pressures and share in one another's spiritual journeys; she participated in the 2014 March 8for Life in Washington, D.C.; and 9 WHEREAS, Tabitha is also a member of the National Honor Society, Campus 10Ministry, Retreat Team, Pro-Life Club, Teenage Republican Club, and Student 11Ambassadors; and 12 WHEREAS, during her career as a distinguished member of Key Club, Tabitha has 13been named Outstanding Key Clubber for five consecutive years, and received numerous 14other awards including Outstanding Vice President of the District, Distinguished Lieutenant 15Governor, National Honor Society Good Character, Daughters of the American Revolution 16Good Citizen, Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce Teenager of the Year, Houma-Thibodaux 17Diocese Student of the Year, Outstanding Diocesan Youth Leader, and Edward Douglas 18White Catholic High School Honor Graduate; and 19 WHEREAS, among her many accomplishments, Tabitha has been a superior-rated 20pianist for fourteen years and in 2014, she was selected as one of only six teens to perform 21in the Nicholls State University Monster Piano Concert; and 22 WHEREAS, Tabitha will attend Louisiana State University this fall, where she plans 23to major in biology with a concentration in pre-medicine; she hopes to become a pediatric 24oncologist; and 25 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the 26Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence 27across the state for their outstanding achievements and accomplishments; and 28 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics 29of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are 30committed to community service to better society as a whole; and Page 2 of 4 HLS 15RS-2539 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 146 1 WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: 2Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of 3Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and 4 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being 5recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of 6Excellence Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and 7 WHEREAS, Tabitha Ann Kearns has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women of 8Excellence Award in the category of High School Woman of Excellence and is also a 9recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her 10accomplishments and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, 11leadership, and community service; and 12 WHEREAS, Tabitha Ann Kearns merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of 13commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and 14it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Tabitha Ann Kearns upon her 15receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's 16Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. 17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 18commend Tabitha Ann Kearns upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award 19from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School 20Woman of Excellence and upon her receipt of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus 21Foundation Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular 22contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for 23the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 25to Tabitha Ann Kearns.
