ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 146 BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, HILL, HODGES, JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON, DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Tabitha Ann Kearns upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School Woman of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. WHEREAS, Tabitha Ann Kearns is a senior at Edward Douglas White Catholic High School in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where she is a servant leader through Key Club; and WHEREAS, she served as the eighth grade and freshman class representative for her school's Key Club, and in 2012, she undertook the position of vice president; Tabitha served as lieutenant governor of the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District and supervised thirteen clubs in Lafourche, Terrebonne, and St. Mary parishes; and WHEREAS, through her experience on the district board and her passion for service, Tabitha rose to the position of governor of the three-state district; in this position, she served one hundred fifty active clubs and led a district board consisting of thirteen lieutenant governors and three executive officers; and WHEREAS, Tabitha chose to work with and support The Eliminate Project, a special initiative partnership between Kiwanis International and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the world; during Tabitha's term as governor, her district raised approximately twenty-five thousand dollars for The Eliminate Project; and WHEREAS, during her five years as a Key Clubber, she has devoted approximately nine hundred hours in service to her home, school, and community; and Page 1 of 3 HCR NO. 146 ENROLLED WHEREAS, through her passion to find a community of teens grounded in faith, Tabitha founded a group called Sisters in Christ, which allows teens to discuss social pressures and share in one another's spiritual journeys; she participated in the 2014 March for Life in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, Tabitha is also a member of the National Honor Society, Campus Ministry, Retreat Team, Pro-Life Club, Teenage Republican Club, and Student Ambassadors; and WHEREAS, during her career as a distinguished member of Key Club, Tabitha has been named Outstanding Key Clubber for five consecutive years, and received numerous other awards including Outstanding Vice President of the District, Distinguished Lieutenant Governor, National Honor Society Good Character, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen, Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce Teenager of the Year, Houma-Thibodaux Diocese Student of the Year, Outstanding Diocesan Youth Leader, and Edward Douglas White Catholic High School Honor Graduate; and WHEREAS, among her many accomplishments, Tabitha has been a superior-rated pianist for fourteen years and in 2014, she was selected as one of only six teens to perform in the Nicholls State University Monster Piano Concert; and WHEREAS, Tabitha will attend Louisiana State University this fall, where she plans to major in biology with a concentration in pre-medicine; she hopes to become a pediatric oncologist; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence across the state for their outstanding achievements and accomplishments; and WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are committed to community service to better society as a whole; and WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and Page 2 of 3 HCR NO. 146 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of Excellence Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and WHEREAS, Tabitha Ann Kearns has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award in the category of High School Woman of Excellence and is also a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and community service; and WHEREAS, Tabitha Ann Kearns merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Tabitha Ann Kearns upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Tabitha Ann Kearns upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School Woman of Excellence and upon her receipt of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
