GERMAIN, BARROW, HILL, HODGES, JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON, DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON COMMENDATIONS: Commends Dr. Tiffany M. Stewart upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the La. Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To commend Dr. Tiffany M. Stewart upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence 3 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation for her 4 achievements in the field of Health and Medicine. 5 WHEREAS, Dr. Stewart received a bachelor of science degree in psychology from 6Florida State University in 1996, and in 2002, she received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology 7from Louisiana State University; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Stewart completed a residency in clinical psychology at the Medical 9University of South Carolina in 2002, and from 2002 until 2004, she served as director of 10the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center inpatient unit eating disorders program; 11and 12 WHEREAS, Dr. Stewart is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Louisiana 13and is currently an associate professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton 14Rouge where she serves as the director of the Behavior Technology Laboratory: Eating 15Disorders and Obesity; and 16 WHEREAS, she has a research program that studies body image, eating disorders, 17and obesity, with a focus on assessment, treatment, and prevention; she has been a pioneer 18in the development and testing of e-health technologies and community-based programs in 19order to disseminate prevention and treatment efforts to large populations; and Page 1 of 3 HLS 15RS-2537 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 149 1 WHEREAS, another of Dr. Stewart's commendable achievements is spearheading 2unique, large, multi-site prevention studies that have included the development and 3deployment of novel approaches for health behavior change; this notable work has attracted 4multimillion dollar grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Department 5of Defense to help develop and test programs and conduct studies related to eating disorders 6and health behaviors; and 7 WHEREAS, Dr. Stewart has led the way for further research through her academic 8investigation of health behaviors related to body image, eating disorders, obesity, and 9women's health; her extensive research has attracted investors and capital to form an 10assessment, prevention, and treatment enterprise which employs state-of-the-art methods to 11improve the health of individuals and communities; and 12 WHEREAS, Dr. Stewart is founder and CSO of Body Evolution Technologies, 13Incorporated, a venture capital-funded entrepreneurial endeavor based on scientific 14discoveries at Pennington Biomedical Research Center and other universities across the 15country; and 16 WHEREAS, she influences individuals outside of her work environment by 17dedicating time to teach cycling and yoga classes; and 18 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the 19Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence 20across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and 21 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics 22of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are 23committed to community service to better society as a whole; and 24 WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: 25Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of 26Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and 27 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being 28recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of 29Excellence Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and Page 2 of 3 HLS 15RS-2537 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 149 1 WHEREAS, Dr. Stewart has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women of Excellence 2Award in the field of Health and Medicine for her accomplishments which demonstrate that 3she has truly excelled in the areas of health and medicine and her contributions in these 4fields have resulted in the betterment of lives; and 5 WHEREAS, Dr. Stewart merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for 6her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is entirely 7appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Dr. Stewart upon her receipt of a 82015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus 9Foundation and to recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana. 10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 11commend Dr. Tiffany M. Stewart upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award 12from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation for her achievements in the 13field of Health and Medicine; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular 14contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for 15the tremendous pride that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana. 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 17to Dr. Tiffany M.
