TAX/SALES & USE: Suspends annual state sales tax holidays until 60 days after
adjournment of the 2016 Regular Session of the Legislature
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To suspend until sixty days after final adjournment of the 2016 Regular Session of the
3 Legislature of Louisiana the provisions of R.S. 47:305.54, 305.58, and 305.62
4 authorizing annual state sales tax holidays.
5 WHEREAS, the economy of our state and our nation has been ravaged by falling oil
6prices, difficult job markets, and recessionary environments in key global economic regions
7which have lead to less demand for Louisiana goods and services; and
8 WHEREAS, the specter of these difficult economic times looms over our state and
9the projected $1.6 billion shortfall Louisiana faces in funding state government operations
10next fiscal year; and
11 WHEREAS, over the last several years, funding for state services, higher education,
12and health care services for low- to moderate-income families have all been pared back to
13the bare necessities and any further reduction could cause the collapse of such much needed
14programs; and
15 WHEREAS, part of the proposed state budget for next year relies heavily on
16increased tuition costs for college students, the potential loss of more state jobs held by
17many heads of household and sole providers, and precarious funding strategies for the state's
18share of Medicaid costs, all of which impact citizens' ability to obtain the same level of
19critical government services they have in the past.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby suspends
21the provisions of R.S. 47:305.54, 305.58, and 305.62 authorizing annual state sales tax

1holidays in order to bolster state general fund revenues and help finance the operations of
2state government in Fiscal Year 2015-2016.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this suspension shall become effective upon
4adoption of this Resolution and shall extend through the sixtieth day after final adjournment
5of the 2016 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana.
