HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 152
BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, HILL, HODGES, JACKSON,
NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THIERRY,
WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON,
DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends The Cinderella Project, a nonprofit organization, upon
its receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the La. Legislative Women's
Caucus Foundation

2To commend The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge upon its receipt of a 2015 Women of
3 Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in
4 the category of Nonprofit of Excellence.
5 WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project was founded in 2008 and is led by volunteers
6with chapters in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Monroe, New Orleans, and Shreveport; and
7 WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project supports young women throughout Louisiana
8with resources that they may not otherwise have access to; its goal is to provide educational
9outreach and community-based projects that are designed to build confidence and self-
10esteem; and
11 WHEREAS, through its signature service program of collecting donated prom
12dresses and distributing them to high school students who are in financial need, The
13Cinderella Project assists young women in attending prom while instilling an appreciation
14for community service; and
15 WHEREAS, more than six thousand prom dresses have been distributed to young
16women across Louisiana through The Cinderella Project's five chapters; and
17 WHEREAS, in 2012, The Cinderella Project launched its second service program,
18the Leadership Academy; this service program is an intensive, college-preparatory workshop
19for high school females from schools across Louisiana; and

1 WHEREAS, the Leadership Academy assists underserved high school women with
2the transition from high school to college by helping with college applications, connecting
3them with financial aid resources, and discussing the expectations of and demands on college
4students; and
5 WHEREAS, Leadership Academy attendees are given the opportunity to learn about
6important aspects of college life such as the ACT test and preparation options, the
7importance of financial budgets while in college, and scholarships and financial aid; and
8 WHEREAS, since 2012, seventy-three students have graduated from the Leadership
9Academy and enrolled in colleges across the state of Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
11Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
12across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
13 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
14of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
15committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
16 WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards:
17Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of
18Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and
19 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being
20recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
21Excellence Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and
22 WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women
23of Excellence Award in the category of Nonprofit of Excellence for its work to improve and
24strengthen the lives of women in Louisiana; and
25 WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of
26commendation for its dedication to excellence and outstanding accomplishments, and it is
27appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend The Cinderella Project upon its
28receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's
29Caucus Foundation and to recognize its vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
2commend The Cinderella Project upon its receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award
3from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of Nonprofit
4of Excellence; does hereby recognize and record for posterity its singular contributions to
5the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous
6pride and honor that The Cinderella Project brings to the state of Louisiana.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
8to The Cinderella Project.
