ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 152 BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, HILL, HODGES, JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS BROOME, BUFFINGTON, DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge upon its receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of Nonprofit of Excellence. WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project was founded in 2008 and is led by volunteers with chapters in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Monroe, New Orleans, and Shreveport; and WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project supports young women throughout Louisiana with resources that they may not otherwise have access to; its goal is to provide educational outreach and community-based projects that are designed to build confidence and self- esteem; and WHEREAS, through its signature service program of collecting donated prom dresses and distributing them to high school students who are in financial need, The Cinderella Project assists young women in attending prom while instilling an appreciation for community service; and WHEREAS, more than six thousand prom dresses have been distributed to young women across Louisiana through The Cinderella Project's five chapters; and WHEREAS, in 2012, The Cinderella Project launched its second service program, the Leadership Academy; this service program is an intensive, college-preparatory workshop for high school females from schools across Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the Leadership Academy assists underserved high school women with the transition from high school to college by helping with college applications, connecting them with financial aid resources, and discussing the expectations of and demands on college students; and Page 1 of 3 HCR NO. 152 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Leadership Academy attendees are given the opportunity to learn about important aspects of college life such as the ACT test and preparation options, the importance of financial budgets while in college, and scholarships and financial aid; and WHEREAS, since 2012, seventy-three students have graduated from the Leadership Academy and enrolled in colleges across the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are committed to community service to better society as a whole; and WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of Excellence Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award in the category of Nonprofit of Excellence for its work to improve and strengthen the lives of women in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, The Cinderella Project merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for its dedication to excellence and outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend The Cinderella Project upon its receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and to recognize its vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend The Cinderella Project upon its receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of Nonprofit of Excellence; does hereby recognize and record for posterity its singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that The Cinderella Project brings to the state of Louisiana.
