COMMENDATIONS: Commends Jennifer Barnes Maggio upon her receipt of a 2015
Women of Excellence Award from the La. Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend Jennifer Barnes Maggio upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence
3 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category
4 of Louisiana Hero of Excellence.
5 WHEREAS, Jennifer Barnes Maggio is an award winning author of four books, a
6nationally recognized speaker, and the chief executive officer of a global nonprofit support
7group, The Life of a Single Mom; and
8 WHEREAS, Ms. Maggio has shared her personal journey through homelessness,
9abuse, and multiple teen pregnancies with audiences around the world, and she has made
10regular appearances on national radio and television programs; and
11 WHEREAS, by the time she reached nineteen years of age, Ms. Maggio's life
12experiences had become her biggest educator as she became a single mother of two children;
13and
14 WHEREAS, having graduated as her high school's valedictorian and senior class
15president, receiving an education remained an important aspect of Ms. Maggio's life, and she
16pursued her education full-time at night and worked full-time during the day; and
17 WHEREAS, through her hard work and determination, she became an eleven-time
18Circle of Excellence winner at a prominent Fortune 500 Company; her success in corporate
19America has led to several regional and national awards while providing her with experience

1in human resources, public speaking, recruitment, financial counseling, and management;
2and
3 WHEREAS, in 2007, Ms. Maggio began hosting single parent support groups in her
4home as a volunteer for her church; this volunteer effort led to the founding of The Life of
5a Single Mom Ministries; and
6 WHEREAS, Ms. Maggio is considered one of the most recognized national
7advocates of single parent empowerment and success; her passion to help single parents is
8contagious and her story has inspired millions of single parents around the world; and
9 WHEREAS, Ms. Maggio has received numerous awards in recognition of her
10outstanding work, some of which include the 2014 Blue Cross Blue Shield Angel Award,
11the 2012 Baton Rouge Business Report's 40x40 Award, and the 2011 Mother of All Ideas
12Award; and
13 WHEREAS, she has been featured in print, television, and radio media; she also
14works as a columnist with several magazines and websites; and
15 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
16Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
17across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
18 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
19of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
20committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
21 WHEREAS, for 2015, there are six categories for the Women of Excellence Awards:
22Business, College Woman of Excellence, Health and Medicine, High School Woman of
23Excellence, Louisiana Hero of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and
24 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2015 Women of Excellence Awards are being
25recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
26Excellence Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 26, 2015; and
27 WHEREAS, Jennifer Barnes Maggio has been named a recipient of a 2015 Women
28of Excellence Award in the category of Louisiana Hero of Excellence for her
29accomplishments which demonstrate she has influenced the lives of people in Louisiana and
30beyond; and

1 WHEREAS, Jennifer Barnes Maggio merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of
2commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and
3it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Jennifer Barnes Maggio upon
4her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's
5Caucus Foundation and to recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
7commend Jennifer Barnes Maggio upon her receipt of a 2015 Women of Excellence Award
8from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of Louisiana
9Hero of Excellence; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular
10contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for
11the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
13to Jennifer Barnes Maggio.
