TRANSPORTATION: Urges and requests Department of Transportation and Development
to lower the speed limit on Louisiana Highway 3235 in Lafourche Parish
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to reduce the speed
3 limit to fifty miles per hour on Louisiana Highway 3235 in Lafourche Parish.
4 WHEREAS, the local officials in Lafourche Parish request that the Department of
5Transportation and Development provide a uniform speed limit of fifty miles per hour on
6Louisiana Highway 3235 in Lafourche Parish; and
7 WHEREAS, speed limits on this stretch of highway range from fifty miles per hour
8to sixty-five miles per hour; and
9 WHEREAS, statistics indicate that within the last three years the Louisiana State
10Police have worked a total of two hundred sixty-nine accidents, with one hundred fourteen
11injuries and five fatalities at or near Louisiana Highway 3235; and
12 WHEREAS, since this is a residential area with many families with children, the
13Department of Transportation and Development should reduce the posted speed limit along
14this route in order to protect the health and welfare of the residents and to prevent a tragedy
15involving the potential additional loss of life or property due to motor vehicle accidents
16involving motor vehicles traveling at high rates of speed; and
17 WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation and Development has performed an
18engineering and traffic investigation to study traffic patterns, speed, volumes, and accident
19history; and
20 WHEREAS, as a result of such study the Department of Transportation and
21Development concluded that a reduction in speed was not warranted; and

1 WHEREAS, the citizens in Lafourche Parish feel that it is vital for the Department
2of Transportation and Development to reduce the speed limit for the safety of persons
3traveling and living along Louisiana Highway 3235.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
5urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to reduce the speed
6limit to fifty miles per hour for vehicles traveling on Louisiana Highway 3235 in Lafourche
7Parish.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
9to the Department of Transportation and Development and to the parish president of
10Lafourche Parish.
