ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 157 BY REPRESENTATIVE GISCLAIR A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to reduce the speed limit to fifty miles per hour on Louisiana Highway 3235 in Lafourche Parish. WHEREAS, the local officials in Lafourche Parish request that the Department of Transportation and Development provide a uniform speed limit of fifty miles per hour on Louisiana Highway 3235 in Lafourche Parish; and WHEREAS, speed limits on this stretch of highway range from fifty miles per hour to sixty-five miles per hour; and WHEREAS, statistics indicate that within the last three years the Louisiana state police have worked a total of two hundred sixty-nine accidents with one hundred fourteen injuries and five fatalities at or near Louisiana Highway 3235; and WHEREAS, since this is a residential area with many families with children, the Department of Transportation and Development should reduce the posted speed limit along this route in order to protect the health and welfare of the residents and to prevent a tragedy involving the potential additional loss of life or property due to motor vehicle accidents involving motor vehicles traveling at high rates of speed; and WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation and Development has performed an engineering and traffic investigation to study traffic patterns, speed, volumes, and accident history; and WHEREAS, as a result of such study the Department of Transportation and Development concluded that a reduction in speed was not warranted; and WHEREAS, the citizens in Lafourche Parish feel that it is vital for the Department of Transportation and Development to reduce the speed limit for the safety of persons traveling and living along Louisiana Highway 3235. Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 157 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to reduce the speed limit to fifty miles per hour for vehicles traveling on Louisiana Highway 3235 in Lafourche Parish. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development and to the parish president of Lafourche Parish.
